Dr. CGK Foundation, Inc. began when the need for resources specifically geared towards helping single mothers obtain a college degree was identified. As a former single mother who repeatedly dropped out of college to support her family, Dr. Courtney Gatlin Keener became very passionate about the disparity between single moms and higher education. After achieving her own educational ambition of a doctoral degree, Dr. Courtney Gatlin Keener Foundation, Inc. was formally established and designated as an independent 501(c)(3) in August 2021.

Initially, we focused solely on college education. However, it was soon realized that academic achievement is one of many areas where single mothers are disproportionately at risk. Thus, we shifted our focus to include additional resources with lasting impact that bridge the gap between vulnerability & sustainability. To this end, our J.E.W.E.L.S. (Just Everyday Women Exceeding Life’s Stereotypes™) program was launched in January 2024.
